Julie Den Tandt is a graduate of the Sutherland-Chan School of Massage Therapy and has a degree in Biology and Psychology from Wilfrid Laurier University. She has been working as a Massage Therapist for almost 20 years now, and is very passionate about the healing effects of massage.

Her specializations include musculoskeletal injuries and dysfunction related to overuse, repetitive strain, and sports injuries. A large component of her practice also focuses on relaxing the nervous system through energy work, as well as treating chronic back and neck pain related to postural dysfunction and chronic stress.

Julie’s philosophy is focused on the belief that massage stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal by providing relaxation, increased energy flow, and balance through the power of touch. Dr. O’Hara works together with her patients to restore symmetry of function by optimizing mobility, strength and co-ordination. Discussion of lifestyle issues, nutrition and exercise are part of her approach; she readily refers as needed to her wide network of health care professionals.

Gentle instrument-assisted adjusting (The Activator Method), traditional spinal and non-spinal manipulation/mobilization and soft tissues techniques are her preferred methods of treatment. The latter include myofascial trigger point therapy, applied kinesiology and the Graston technique for releasing fascial restrictions.

Dr. O’Hara is a 1982 cum laude graduate of Toronto’s Canadian MemorialChiropractic College. Prior to this she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana’s Ball State University and completed graduate coursework at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Laura Disenhaus, PT, DOMP, DScO is a licensed physiotherapist and osteopathic manual practitioner. Laura obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in biology/psychology from the University of Western Ontario before going on to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy (BSc(PT)) from the University of Toronto. As well, Laura is a graduate of the Canadian College of Osteopathy, obtaining her DOMP/DScO after presenting her thesis on osteopathic treatment for chronic constipation. She is a teaching assistant for the Canadian College of Osteopathy (Urology, Gynecology).

Laura has extensive experience in various areas having worked in hospital settings (Hospital for Sick Children and Mt. Sinai Hospital, Toronto; Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York) as well as in private practice since 1999, and was an instructor for New York University’s Physical Therapy department and a guest lecturer for Touro and Downstate College’s Physical Therapy department (oncology).

Her current areas of specialization include chronic pelvic pain in women and men; infertility in women and men; digestive disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, and reflux; coccyx pain; and TMJ (jaw) dysfunctions.

Over the years I have had many experiences that have shaped the approach I take to understanding how symptoms arise and have always sought out to provide the most appropriate therapy for a particular condition.

I have termed my approach physical medicine & active rehabilitation. Physical medicine is defined as a remedy for treating, preventing, or alleviating the symptoms of disease (dis-ease) of the physical body which often prevents people from achieve optimal movement and performance. Physical medicine is also what I provide my patients as a means of optimizing their movement, performance and health. I integrate a variety of therapies such as Fascial Distortion Model (FDM), Instrument Assisted Fascial Release, Active Release Therapy (A.R.T.), Fascial Manipulation; Chiropractic Joint Manipulation and Mobilization; Osteopathic Manipulative Therapies; Contemporary Medical Acupuncture; Shockwave Therapy; Laser; Frequency Specific Microcurrent; and Kinesiology Taping to restore optimal function to the nervous system, muscles and joints in order to reduce pain and promote healing. Following this, active rehabilitation is used and is a combination of exercises, postures and movement corrections that are provided to my patients to ensure that you are able to return to full health, i.e., rehabilitate your body and prevent further pain, dysfunction and any exacerbation of your condition.
